Winter 2025 Edition
Winter 2025 Edition
One of the great things about the Cumberland Valley School District is that opportunity is not just an idea—it’s a reality. Across academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities, our students continue to prove that when given the chance to succeed, they rise to the occasion.
Recently, we’ve seen our students excel in ways that deserve celebration. Our boys’ soccer team and girls’ cheerleading squad both claimed state championships, demonstrating skill, teamwork, and perseverance. Our JROTC program finished first in the League 3 drill team competition, a testament to their discipline and leadership. In the academic arena, our Science Olympiad team remains a powerhouse, finishing in the top five of every competition, while our TSA students (middle and high school) brought home more than 90 top three finishes at regionals. These are just a few examples of the countless ways our students are thriving.
What makes these achievements even more remarkable is the foundation of support behind them. Teachers who challenge and encourage. Coaches and advisors who mentor. Parents and community members who cheer from the sidelines and stand behind their students. Opportunity is only meaningful if students have the confidence to seize it—and that confidence is built by the people who invest in them every day.
As we move forward into the second half of the school year, let’s continue to create and champion opportunities for every student, in every classroom, on every stage, and in every competition. Their success is a reflection of the collective efforts of this district. And that’s something to be proud of.

At Winding Creek Elementary, our dedicated Fifth Grade House Leaders had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with second and third-graders in a heartwarming and engaging session centered on empathy. The students participated in a series of activities and thoughtful discussions, all designed to help them explore the importance of understanding and kindness. By working together, they discovered how these core values not only foster meaningful connections but also empower each of us to grow stronger as individuals and as a community of Eagles.
Empathy is one of the seven key competencies in our Portrait of an Eagle, and it’s inspiring to see our students embodying this value in such meaningful ways. Their actions are a true reflection of what it means to be an Eagle.
This past fall, the Cumberland Valley Boys Soccer team triumphed in a thrilling double overtime match, defeating Parkland 2-1 to become the 2024 PIAA 4A Boys Soccer STATE CHAMPIONS.

We want to keep you updated on the progress of the construction projects at Green Ridge Elementary School and Eagle View Middle School. Both projects have faced delays, primarily due to weather conditions that impacted weather-dependent activities. Additionally, the Eagle View project has encountered challenges with securing the necessary permits, which has further contributed to the delay. We understand how important it is for you to stay informed about the work taking place and how it may impact your daily routines. These ongoing construction efforts are essential in enhancing both schools’ facilities, ensuring that students will have modern, well-equipped learning environments for years to come.
Green Ridge Elementary School
At Green Ridge Elementary, construction is steadily moving forward, with key milestones reached recently. Work on the classroom additions (pictured A & B) is progressing, with the slab-on-grade foundation now complete and block wall construction well underway. Similarly, the two-story addition (pictured E) has entered its early stages, with subgrade preparation in progress.
Additionally, the removal of the existing playground has been completed to make way for the installation of an underground water retention system, designed to improve stormwater management on site. Grading efforts are also continuing to prepare for an upgraded internal roadway system to better accommodate traffic flow.
Eagle View Middle School
At Eagle View Middle School, crews are preparing the site for the two-story classroom addition, with excavation and soil preparation underway to ensure a stable foundation. Additionally, preparations are being made for the next phases of construction, including foundational work and utility installations.
To accommodate project delays, we have adjusted the timeline and phasing to ensure the project will be completed on time. As part of this adjustment, the Class of 2030 will be relocated to a dedicated wing of the CVHS 10-12 building on the main campus for the 2025-2026 school year. This move is essential to maintain the safety and well-being of our students and staff during the renovation.
We truly appreciate the community's understanding and continued support as we work to bring these essential improvements to both schools. For more information, including answers to frequently asked questions, please visit our Construction website.
CVHS senior Brent Gaspich has been selected for the All-Eastern Honors Mixed Choir as a Bass II. Congratulations, Brent!
The Langan family is putting their #PortraitOfAnEagle competencies into action with a generous donation to Sporting Hill Elementary! Over the past two years, Patrick and his brother Rory, along with their mom, organized a neighborhood Turkey Trot to raise funds for local families, raising $3,100 this year (up from $2,300 last year!). This week, they presented gift cards to Principal Mrs. Shaddock to support families in need. We are incredibly proud of the Langan family's generosity!
Congratulations to CVHS seniors Aman Kaur (top) and Joleigh Nailor (bottom), members of Cumberland Valley Agricultural Sciences & FFA, for being selected as SLLC Legislative Interns! They are among just 8 FFA members from Pennsylvania chosen to work with State FFA Officers at the State Legislative Leadership Conference in March 2025.
Their leadership and passion for agriculture will play a key role in shaping the event and inspiring thousands of students across the state. This recognition highlights their hard work and commitment to the FFA mission. We are so proud of their achievements and excited to see the impact they'll make.
