Portrait of an Eagle in Action

CV celebrates eight seniors who have been named as 2025 National Merit Scholarship finalists.

A big congratulations to EIGHT CV seniors who have been named 2025 National Merit Scholarship finalists! These outstanding students are among the top 16,000 out of 1.3 million and are now competing for one of the 6,870 prestigious Merit Scholarships.

After earning semifinalist status with their stellar PSAT scores, they advanced through a tough application process showcasing their academic excellence, leadership, and determination.

As finalists, these students will continue in the competition for a scholarship that recognizes the top 1% of high school seniors across the country! We’re #CVProud of their hard work and can’t wait to see how they continue to shine for a chance at part of the $26 million in scholarships.

Inspiring Responsibility

Shaull Elementary's H2O group presents at the February 18, 2025 Board meeting.

A huge shoutout to the incredible 5th graders from Shaull Elementary’s Helpful to Others (H2O) group! Under the guidance of school counselor Mr. Barrick, these young leaders took the spotlight at the last CV School Board meeting to present their mid-year Responsibility lesson to the Board and District Administration.

The group—Teagan, Isla, Luke, Caleb, and Eli—demonstrated confidence, teamwork, and a deep understanding of responsibility in action. Their hard work and dedication are truly inspiring! Keep shining, team, we’re #CVProud of you!

Honoring Excellence

CVHS NHS inducts 99 new members on February 13, 2025.

On February 13, 2025, the William R. Pierce Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) at Cumberland Valley High School proudly inducted 99 new members from the Class of 2025. This prestigious chapter, established in 1959, has honored over seven thousand students for their academic and personal achievements.

To be selected for membership, students must maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of at least 96% and actively engage in school life by participating in at least two school activities. They must also complete a minimum of 15 hours of community service and earn positive recommendations from the faculty. Once the NHS Faculty Advisory Committee reviews these criteria—along with attendance and disciplinary records—the inductees are chosen based on their demonstration of the four pillars of the Society: Leadership, Scholarship, Service, and Character.

This induction is not just an achievement; it’s a testament to the hard work, dedication, and positive impact these students have made on their school and community. Congratulations to the 99 new members of the National Honor Society at Cumberland Valley, we are #CVProud of you!

Eagles Around the District

CV showcases what our students are doing across the district recently.

Top left: Winding Creek Elementary students and families had a fantastic time at the Mini-THON event, Light Up the Night! They shared lots of laughs, played fun games, and stayed focused on their important mission of helping to fight pediatric cancer. A big thank you to the incredible high school Mini-THON committee for making it all happen!

Top center: Shout out to Mr. Stager and the Conquerors' Club! Every week, students at Eagle View Middle School gather after school to strategize, compete, and have a blast with fun and engaging games. It’s a great way to wrap up the week with some friendly competition!

Top right: School Board Member, Mrs. Nestor, recently visited Ms. Phillips' 1st grade class at Silver Spring Elementary as a guest reader! She read a fun Valentine’s book and a story about the Earth that tied perfectly into their new CKLA Unit 7, The History of Earth. The students had a great time listening and learning from her!

Bottom left: The talented CVHS Clay Club rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty to create special appreciation gifts for the amazing CVHS staff, District Office, and District Support Facilities staff! After last year's successful Throw-a-thon, they continued their creative journey by crafting even more beautiful succulent planters. Each one was carefully made by our ceramic artists, glazed by the Clay Studio and National Arts Honor Society members, and topped off with a lovely succulent—such a thoughtful gift!

Bottom center: Members of CV's Mini-THON had an exciting weekend at Penn State for their annual THON event! It was a wonderful opportunity to support the fight against pediatric cancer and be part of something truly meaningful. The students experienced the power of unity and saw firsthand how their efforts can make a real difference in the lives of children battling cancer.

Bottom right: Green Ridge Elementary students and families had a blast at movie night! Huge thanks to the GR staff for putting it all together. Everyone snacked on yummy treats, enjoyed the movie, and helped raise almost $1,000 for CVHS' Mini-THON. Such a fun way to support a great cause!

A Slice of Fun

Students in Mrs. Herman's class at Monroe Elementary had a blast with a creative lesson thoughtfully planned by Ms. Lavoie, the Library Teaching Assistant. After reading Curious George and the Pizza Party, the fun continued as they rolled up their sleeves to create their own pizza masterpieces. Ms. Lavoie’s creativity and efforts were key to the success of the lesson. With the help of a toaster oven generously provided by the Monroe PTO, each student baked their delicious creations and enjoyed a memorable pizza party. It was the perfect combination of learning, creativity, and, of course, tasty food!

CV transportation department update

From Our Transportation Department

Like many other schools locally and nationally, we are experiencing a significant shortage of school bus and van drivers at Cumberland Valley School District. This shortage has affected, and will continue to affect, the transportation services we provide to our students. Our contractors are actively working to hire new drivers, and we are committed to ensuring that all students receive a ride to and from school. However, please be aware that this may require last-minute modifications to routes and stop times, which we will communicate to parents as quickly as possible.

Notifications of delays will be sent via text and email to the contact information listed in Skyward. To ensure you receive these notifications, please verify that your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date in Skyward.

When we have information about delays exceeding 20 minutes, we will notify you as soon as possible. Please understand that our Transportation Office is often overwhelmed with calls and may not be able to answer all inquiries immediately. We kindly ask that phone calls be reserved for emergencies, such as a missing child. For non-urgent matters, please email us at transportation@cvschools.org.

If you know anyone interested in becoming a school bus or van driver for Cumberland Valley School District, please encourage them to reach out to one of our Transportation Contractors. There are great part-time opportunities available!

  • Miller & Sons: 717-258-3371
