After an epic battle in 2OT, CV defeated Parkland with a 2-1 victory last Saturday. This is the first time in the CV Boys Soccer program’s 51-year history that they’ve made it to states and brought home the championship title!
We are #CVProud of you, Eagles!
Mountain View Middle School's canned food drive, organized by Student Council, was a huge success! Over 6,000 lbs. of food were collected and donated to New Hope Ministries, and thanks to the generosity of our community, they raised $4,500! This allowed them to provide gift cards to families in need at Mountain View, as well as contribute directly to New Hope Ministries to help them provide holiday meals.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported, promoted, and participated in making this drive such a meaningful impact for those in need. Together, we’re making the season brighter for so many.
We are #CVProud of you, Eagles!
Earlier this week, we continued recognizing staff members who exemplify the Portrait of an Eagle competencies. Throughout the day, Superintendent Dr. Blanchard surprised them by presenting certificates and POE Challenge Coins to celebrate their dedication to their students and their efforts in promoting our core competencies.
Please help us celebrate the following staff members:
- Julie Kapkiwa, School Counselor at Winding Creek Elementary, was recognized for her outstanding problem-solving abilities, earning respect from both students and staff. Through fostering collaboration and providing educators with strategies to better meet students' needs, she plays a key role in supporting the overall well-being and development of the entire school community.
- Rena Brown, Educational Assistant at Winding Creek Elementary, was recognized for her exceptional problem-solving skills, consistently navigating any situation with ease. She works tirelessly to address the unique needs of each student, ensuring personalized support for every child. Her dedication makes a profound impact on students' lives, embodying a deep commitment to care and excellence.
- Kelli Still, 4th Grade Teacher at Shaull Elementary, was recognized for her creative critical thinking strategies, consistently challenging students to expand their thinking. Her innovative teaching approach adds an extra dynamic to the classroom, encouraging students to problem-solve, imagine, create, and express their ideas. Her unwavering dedication to ensuring every student succeeds drives her to personalize learning and support each child's growth.
Congratulations, and thank you for your commitment to Cumberland Valley!
Mrs. McInroy, 1st Grade teacher at Shaull Elementary, received a surprise visit this week from our Superintendent, Dr. Blanchard. He is visiting schools across the district to honor staff members who have reached a remarkable 25-year milestone with Cumberland Valley this school year.
Thank you, Mrs. McInroy, for your unwavering service, commitment, and dedication to our students and community.
4th graders at Silver Spring Elementary School recently hosted a Medieval Museum, showcasing everything they learned about the Middle Ages! From building castles with index cards to creating stained glass windows, coat of arms, and desert camel art, the students put their creativity and knowledge on display.
Families and 5th graders joined the fun, making it a great day of learning and community involvement!
Last month, Mrs. Walton, CVHS School Counselor, took a group of students to Dickinson College for the HBCU College and Career Fair. The event was packed with interactive sessions and provided students the chance to connect with college reps from schools like Morgan State, Howard, Bowie State, and more!
Our Eagles had an incredible time learning about their future possibilities and came home with tons of valuable resources to help them on their college and career journeys!
This week, we celebrate CV educators, support staff, families, and community members who collaborate to create inspiring learning experiences for our students. From our committed school leaders and teachers to bus drivers, custodians, counselors, cafeteria staff, and everyone in between, each one of you plays a crucial part in our students' achievements.
Thank you for your passion, dedication, and hard work—together, we are shaping the future!

From Our Transportation Department
Like many other schools locally and nationally, we are experiencing a significant shortage of school bus and van drivers at Cumberland Valley School District. This shortage has affected, and will continue to affect, the transportation services we provide to our students. Our contractors are actively working to hire new drivers, and we are committed to ensuring that all students receive a ride to and from school. However, please be aware that this may require last-minute modifications to routes and stop times, which we will communicate to parents as quickly as possible.
Notifications of delays will be sent via text and email to the contact information listed in Skyward. To ensure you receive these notifications, please verify that your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date in Skyward.
When we have information about delays exceeding 20 minutes, we will notify you as soon as possible. Please understand that our Transportation Office is often overwhelmed with calls and may not be able to answer all inquiries immediately. We kindly ask that phone calls be reserved for emergencies, such as a missing child. For non-urgent matters, please email us at transportation@cvschools.org.
If you know anyone interested in becoming a school bus or van driver for Cumberland Valley School District, please encourage them to reach out to one of our Transportation Contractors. There are great part-time opportunities available!
