Earlier this week, we started recognizing staff members who exemplify the Portrait of an Eagle competencies. Throughout the day, Superintendent Dr. Blanchard surprised them by presenting certificates and POE Challenge Coins to celebrate their dedication to their students and their efforts in promoting our core competencies.
Please help us celebrate the following staff members:
- Maria McAndrew, an Educational Assistant at Silver Spring Elementary School, is recognized for her exceptional empathy. She consistently shows genuine care for every student, looking out for their well-being each and every day.
- Cheryl Lusk, Building Secretary, and Andrea Brown, Principal's Secretary, at Green Ridge Elementary School were recognized for their outstanding problem-solving during building construction. No matter the challenge, they always have a smile on their faces, bringing positivity to every situation.
Congratulations, and thank you for your commitment to Cumberland Valley!
This week, October 14-18, is recognized as Digital Citizenship Week, an annual campaign to promote a healthy, balanced, and positive approach to media and tech use among young people. Kids today may seem like experts at using technology, but the digital world requires all kinds of skills and habits that kids don’t just pick up as they go. Digital citizenship helps them learn those skills. Additionally, digital citizenship skills align with our Portrait of an Eagle competencies of Responsibility, Communication, and Empathy.
As the line between online and offline continues to blur, we need to reflect on how we use intrapersonal and interpersonal skills to build and strengthen positive online communication and communities. As adults we model behavior to our children and students and communicating positively online is a quick and simple way to build and model Digital Citizenship skills.
For more information and/or tips to support your children in using technology, please check out the Family Tips provided by Common Sense Education.
We're shining a light on the incredible impact nutritious school lunches have in fueling our students' achievements - inside and outside the classroom!
School lunches are more than just meals; they're essential for helping our Eagles thrive, learn, and enjoy their day! Let's give a HUGE SHOUTOUT to our amazing cafeteria staff whose hard work, dedication, and commitment are essential to making it all possible every single day

A huge thanks to Stroud Water Research Center for an incredible science lab with our fifth graders district-wide! The students had a blast using a freshwater macroinvertebrate sorting sheet to dive into the fascinating world of aquatic life!
We appreciate you making learning such an awesome experience!
Mrs. Warner, a 5th-grade teacher at Green Ridge Elementary School, received a surprise visit this week from our Superintendent, Dr. Blanchard. He is visiting schools across the district to honor staff members who have reached a remarkable 25-year milestone with Cumberland Valley this school year.
Thank you, Mrs. Warner, for your unwavering service, commitment, and dedication to our students and community.
What an incredible day we had at CVHS for our annual AgVenture Day! Our amazing Cumberland Valley Agricultural Sciences & FFA students led the way, hosting fourth graders from across the district for a hands-on exploration of agriculture.
This year marked the 13th edition of this amazing event, where students experienced everything from pollination to the journey of milk from cow to glass, to fascinating lessons about aquaponics, animal interactions, and much more!
A huge thank you to our dedicated HS students for making it all happen and to our community partners for their support. We appreciate your dedication and hard work!
DYK: Throughout the day, our students exemplified the Portrait of an Eagle competencies showing how #EaglesAreResponsible, #EaglesAreAdaptable, #EaglesAreCommunicators, and #EaglesAreCriticalThinkers. We are #CVProud of you!
At Shaull Elementary School, our students are truly exemplifying the Portrait of An Eagle. Recently, Ms. Clark’s 4th graders welcomed two new students from Ukraine, and their support has been inspiring.
Our Eagles are showcasing competencies like empathy, communication, and critical thinking as they embrace their new friends. They’ve stepped up to help bridge the language gap, using tools like Google Translate and collaborating in creative ways to make everyone feel included. When one of the new students answers a question at the board, the class cheers loudly, celebrating each small victory together.
Way to go, Eagles! We are #CVProud of you!
From Our Transportation Department
Like many other schools locally and nationally, we are experiencing a significant shortage of school bus and van drivers at Cumberland Valley School District. This shortage has affected, and will continue to affect, the transportation services we provide to our students. Our contractors are actively working to hire new drivers, and we are committed to ensuring that all students receive a ride to and from school. However, please be aware that this may require last-minute modifications to routes and stop times, which we will communicate to parents as quickly as possible.
Notifications of delays will be sent via text and email to the contact information listed in Skyward. To ensure you receive these notifications, please verify that your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date in Skyward.
When we have information about delays exceeding 20 minutes, we will notify you as soon as possible. Please understand that our Transportation Office is often overwhelmed with calls and may not be able to answer all inquiries immediately. We kindly ask that phone calls be reserved for emergencies, such as a missing child. For non-urgent matters, please email us at transportation@cvschools.org.
If you know anyone interested in becoming a school bus or van driver for Cumberland Valley School District, please encourage them to reach out to one of our Transportation Contractors. There are great part-time opportunities available!

Device Insurance
The District will continue to supply technology devices (iPads and Chromebooks) for each student as we believe digital access is essential to our students' learning and development. We own and value each device and require students to follow our usage guidelines and take care and caution while handling the device. The device has a manufacturer's warranty that covers defects and malfunctions, but families will be responsible for the full cost of any loss or damage unless you purchase device insurance through the district.
Please review the full details of our 1:1 program which includes directions on how to pay for device insurance.
