Portrait of an Eagle Superstars!

CV proudly showcases our Portrait of an Eagle superstar staff members.

Earlier this week, we continued honoring outstanding staff members who exemplify our Portrait of an Eagle competencies. Superintendent Dr. Blanchard surprised them with a certificate and a POE Challenge Coin to celebrate their dedication to students and commitment to promoting our core competencies.

Please help us celebrate the following staff members:

- Annie Polillo, Math Teacher at CVHS, was recognized for her incredible problem-solving skills and dedication as the sole advisor of a Key Club with over 700 students. She consistently goes above and beyond supporting her students both academically and emotionally, while also serving as a trusted resource for staff. Annie’s compassion, commitment, and leadership truly embody the spirit and values of POE.

- Sharon Sheaffer, Emotional Support Aide at Silver Spring Elementary, was recognized for exemplifying exceptional adaptability and positivity in her unwavering support of staff, students, and families. Sharon approaches every challenge with grace, optimism, and dedication, always willing to go the extra mile. Her flexibility, compassion, and commitment inspire those around her and reflect the very best of our school community.

- George Gemberling, Physical Education Teacher at Eagle View Middle School, was recognized for demonstrating outstanding adaptability and leadership amid the challenges of construction. George has shown creativity and composure in finding new ways to support both students and colleagues, ensuring learning remains engaging and effective. His steady guidance and dedication to building confidence and competence in every student reflect his deep commitment to their growth and success.

Congratulations, and thank you for your commitment to Cumberland Valley!

Eagles Around the District

A collage of images of CV students showcases what they are doing and learning across the district.

Top left: At Winding Creek Elementary, Ms. Bashore’s 5th graders and Ms. Lund’s 1st graders teamed up to launch Pages & Pals, a special buddy reading program. During morning meetings, they practice reading together and making connections. The experience helps students grow as readers while building meaningful friendships across grade levels.

Top center: Eagle View 7th and 8th graders reunited for a spooky good time at their fall social, their first chance to come together this year. The night was filled with fun costumes, laughter, and school spirit. A big shoutout to the EV Student Council for organizing such an awesome event.

Top right: Fifth graders in Ms. Strome’s Exploration Class at Silver Spring Elementary embraced the fall spirit by designing festive mazes with KEVA planks. They then coded DASH robots to navigate through their creations, adding sound and light code blocks to enhance the fall fest theme. The project combined creativity, teamwork, and STEM learning in a fun, hands-on way.

Bottom left: CVHS recently welcomed professionals from Deloitte for a Computer Science College and Career Night as part of our TechFluenCV program. Their guidance on résumé building, certifications, and career pathways inspired both students and families. Our decade-long TechFluenCV partnership continues to open doors for Cumberland Valley students, helping them gain real-world insights, connect with industry professionals, and embody our Portrait of an Eagle competencies to prepare every graduate for success beyond high school.

Bottom center: The Green Ridge Elementary 2nd Grade team showed their big hearts and creative spirit on Unity Day by dressing up as the Lorax for “Orange You Glad We’re Kind” Day. Their bright orange smiles and message of compassion reminded everyone that unity and kindness make our school community shine.

Bottom right: Hampden Elementary 1st graders had a wonderful time learning about Mesopotamia. They practiced writing in cuneiform using Play-Doh, shaping the ancient symbols with their own hands. It was exciting to see their curiosity and creativity come alive.

Potential Traffic and Bus Delays Starting October 30

With the grand opening of the new Costco on the Carlisle Pike tomorrow, October 30, heavy traffic is expected on the Carlisle Pike and Hempt Road, which may affect travel times for student drivers, families, and school buses. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for morning and afternoon commutes. While we’ll do our best to minimize delays, we appreciate your patience and understanding as our community adjusts to this change.

Champions in Training

Last week, Middlesex Elementary proudly hosted the 4th annual 2nd Grade Greek Olympic Games. Students from the “city-states” of Athens, Olympia, and Sparta eagerly rotated through a series of exciting events inspired by the ancient Olympics. They raced around the red track in a fast-paced foot race, tested their strength and aim with a discus throw, and showed off their skill in a javelin throw. Students cheered for their classmates, celebrated teamwork, and learned about the spirit of friendly competition.

Class of 2027 Makes an Impact

Collage of pictures of CVHS Class of 2027 at Mission Central, assembling more than 140 activity kits for students.

At the start of the school year, the Junior Class Officers of 2027 partnered with Mission Central, a nonprofit dedicated to meeting human needs locally and globally, to organize a school supplies donation drive. Thanks to the generosity of CVHS students and families, over 2,100 individual school supplies were collected.

On October 20, the Class of 2027 visited Mission Central to assemble more than 140 activity kits, helping students in need learn and thrive. These efforts support Mission Central’s ongoing mission, which has already served over 8.7 million people worldwide. A heartfelt thank you to the CVSD community for making a difference!

Cumberland Valley School District Transportation Update with school bus image.

From Our Transportation Department

Like many other schools locally and nationally, we are experiencing a significant shortage of school bus and van drivers at Cumberland Valley School District. This shortage has affected, and will continue to affect, the transportation services we provide to our students. Our contractors are actively working to hire new drivers, and we are committed to ensuring that all students receive a ride to and from school. However, please be aware that this may require last-minute modifications to routes and stop times, which we will communicate to parents as quickly as possible.

Notifications of delays will be sent via text and email to the contact information listed in Skyward. To ensure you receive these notifications, please verify that your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date in Skyward.

When we have information about delays exceeding 20 minutes, we will notify you as soon as possible. Please understand that our Transportation Office experiences a high volume of calls during this time and may not be able to respond to all inquiries immediately.

In order to keep the phone lines open for emergencies, please email the Transportation Office with stop concerns, as well as to confirm bus information at transportation@cvschools.org.

If you know anyone interested in becoming a school bus or van driver for Cumberland Valley School District, please encourage them to reach out to one of our Transportation Contractors. There are great part-time opportunities available!
