We’re proud to celebrate five outstanding Cumberland Valley High School students who have been named Semifinalists in the prestigious 71st Annual National Merit Scholarship Program! Each year, over 1.3 million students enter the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Only the top 1% of seniors nationwide earn Semifinalist status — and these Eagles are among them (L-R):
Siddharth Dendukuri
Aashritha Kakarla
Nandhini Jayendra Sankar
Khushi Shingala
Selina Xu
Their dedication and academic achievement have placed them in the running for a share of nearly $26 million in scholarships, with finalists to be announced in spring 2026. This remarkable milestone reflects their perseverance, drive, and commitment to excellence, and it's a proud moment for our entire CV community.
Top left: We were proud to honor our military and first responders at last Friday’s football game. It was a special evening recognizing the service and sacrifice of those who have protected and supported our community. Thank you for all you have given to our community and our country.
Top center: Students at Sporting Hill Elementary recently celebrated International Dot Day in style by wearing dots and letting their creativity shine! Each classroom took part in fun, hands-on activities inspired by the day’s theme. It was a joyful celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration.
Top right: Congrats to CV FFA for proudly representing Pennsylvania at the Eastern States Exposition (Big "E")! Our teams placed 2nd in Farm Business Management — with Brianna Ranney earning 1st place individual and Corinne Lowe taking 4th — and 4th in the Marketing Plan competition. Way to go, Eagles!
Bottom left: Fifth-grade students at Hampden Elementary put their 21st Century skills to the test in Mr. de La Barrera’s Exploration class! Using communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, they built impressive index card towers, some reaching as high as 42 inches. A fun and hands-on way to grow those POE competencies!
Bottom center: Eighth-grade students in Mr. Rice’s Tech Ed class at Mountain View Middle School rolled up their sleeves and explored the world of woodworking! From tissue boxes to napkin holders and desk organizers, students built their own projects while learning about different types of wood, like walnut, oak, and poplar. It was a great mix of creativity, craftsmanship, and hands-on learning.
Bottom right: CV Athletics has once again brought home the PennLive Cup for the 2024–2025 school year, marking the second time in just three years! The award honors the top all-around athletic program in the Mid-Penn Conference, and our Eagles continue to soar. Congrats to all of our student-athletes and coaches!
All fifth-graders across the district recently participated in an exciting hands-on science lab, thanks to the incredible team at Stroud Water Research Center. Students explored freshwater ecosystems by examining aquatic creatures up close using magnifying glasses and microscopes, then identified them using macroinvertebrate sorting sheets. It was a fun, interactive way to learn how these tiny organisms help scientists understand water quality. A huge thank you to Stroud for making this event such an engaging and educational adventure!
Last week, Shaull Elementary’s 4th and 5th grade students stepped into the world of law during an exciting mock trial experience. With the Honorable Kathryn Silcox, Magisterial District Judge, presiding and special guests from the Pennsylvania Bar Association taking on character roles, students watched the classic tale of Goldilocks unfold in a courtroom setting. As members of the jury, they helped decide the outcome, turning storytime into a hands-on civics lesson.
The day also marked the 238th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. To celebrate, students enjoyed a special read-aloud and had the chance to sign their own version of the Declaration of Independence using feather pens. It was a fun and meaningful way to connect history, government, and learning in one unforgettable experience.
This Friday is Human Resources Professionals Day, and we want to recognize the extraordinary people who lead with heart, care, and purpose.
Our Human Resources team is more than just a department, they are trusted partners, thoughtful listeners, problem solvers, and advocates. They help build the foundation of our schools by recruiting, supporting, and caring for the incredible educators and staff who serve our students.Your work may often happen behind the scenes, but its impact is felt everywhere—in every classroom, office, and school across the district.
Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to excellence!
Like many other schools locally and nationally, we are experiencing a significant shortage of school bus and van drivers at Cumberland Valley School District. This shortage has affected, and will continue to affect, the transportation services we provide to our students. Our contractors are actively working to hire new drivers, and we are committed to ensuring that all students receive a ride to and from school. However, please be aware that this may require last-minute modifications to routes and stop times, which we will communicate to parents as quickly as possible.
Notifications of delays will be sent via text and email to the contact information listed in Skyward. To ensure you receive these notifications, please verify that your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date in Skyward.
When we have information about delays exceeding 20 minutes, we will notify you as soon as possible. Please understand that our Transportation Office experiences a high volume of calls during this time and may not be able to respond to all inquiries immediately.
In order to keep the phone lines open for emergencies, please email the Transportation Office with stop concerns, as well as to confirm bus information at transportation@cvschools.org.
If you know anyone interested in becoming a school bus or van driver for Cumberland Valley School District, please encourage them to reach out to one of our Transportation Contractors. There are great part-time opportunities available!
