Principal's Message

Greetings Shaull Families,

Can you believe we are only a few days away from the first day of school? We are excited and our staff has been working hard to prepare classrooms and curricula for the return of students! With school beginning Tuesday, we would like to share with you a couple of important changes. First, our main lobby entrance has a significant change. The main door will no longer be unlocked throughout the day. It will remain locked at all times. We now have a camera call box located at the front corner of our entrance (see photos below). Simply press the button and wait for one of our secretaries to greet you. Once we identify you and the purpose of your visit, you will be buzzed in at the main door. Once in the vestibule, you can use the QR codes to sign your student in or out, or sign in as a visitor. Should you need to enter the main office from the secure vestibule, we will buzz you in a second time. The call box operates very similarly to a ring doorbell. We greatly appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we navigate this new procedure to make our building more secure.

Secondly and very excitedly, we are adding an evidence-based math program from Kindergarten through 5th grade across the district. The new math program is called Bridges Math. This program joins our wonderful Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) Reading program and greatly strengthens our top notch curricular offerings. Bridges Math consists of Number Corner and the main Bridges program. Be on the lookout for "home connections" and other communications from your child's classroom teacher. For more information about Bridges Math and Number Corner, watch this video or visit this website.

We enjoyed meeting our kindergarten and new to Shaull families this week. First though Fifth grade parents will have an opportunity to meet their child's teacher on Back to School Night. This event will be held at all CV elementary schools on Wednesday, September 4, from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. This event is for parents/guardians of students in grades 1-5.

Back to School Night will proceed as follows:

Grades 1 and 2 will be from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM (6:30 end time)

Optional Principal Overview Session at 6:15 PM in the Gym

Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be from 6:30 PM to 7:15 (7:30 end time)

Please feel free to reach out to me directly should you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year.

Let's have a wonderful first week of school!

Respectfully,

Mr. T.

Note About School Supplies

The Cumberland Valley School District provides all elementary students with the basic school supplies needed for each day. Parents do need to provide their elementary student with a backpack, lunch box/bag if packing lunch, wired headphones, and a water bottle if necessary.

CV Varsity Football Game Attendance

We are excited to welcome you to another season of Varsity Football at Chapman Field! As the season approaches, we want to inform you of important updates to our student attendance policies for home varsity football games. These changes aim to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Please note that parents should also review the policies of host teams for away games, as many districts have similar rules.  Students in Grades K-8:

  • Must be accompanied by a paying adult (age 18+) to be admitted.

  • May enter through any gate.

  • Unaccompanied K-8 students will not be permitted entry, and parents/guardians will be contacted for pickup.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement these changes. Our goal is to provide a secure and enjoyable environment for all attendees. Thank you for your continued support of the Cumberland Valley School District and our athletic programs. We look forward to seeing you at the games!

Cell Phone, Smart Watch - Device Policy

CELL PHONES AND PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (School Board Policy 237)

The Board recognizes that mobile phones and electronic devices are now an integral part of the daily lives and culture of many of the District’s students. Nonetheless, the Board believes that students should have an educational environment free from unnecessary disruptions and distractions. The Board has determined that the presence of mobile phones and electronic devices has the potential to distract students from their educational mission and to otherwise disrupt the educational environment.

Electronic devices shall include all devices that can take photographs; record, play or edit audio or video data; store, transmit or receive calls, messages, text, data or images; operate online applications; or provide a wireless, unfiltered connection to the Internet.

In our elementary schools, students are prohibited from using any electronic device during the school day.  Any electronic device, including cell phones and smartwatches, possessed by any student in school buildings or on district property must remain powered off and always kept out of sight during the school day except as follows below.

Nothing in this policy shall affect the ability of the building administrator or another staff member to grant approval for the use of an electronic device by a student. Students must obtain prior permission from the building administrator or staff member to utilize the electronic device during the school day. Usage may include, but is not limited to, instructional purposes, student’s urgent health or safety needs, or in the event of an emergency. Nothing in this policy shall affect the provision or use of an electronic device as stated in an Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Service Agreement.

If a student does not follow this expectation, building administrators and staff members may confiscate a student’s electronic devices. All confiscated electronic devices shall be delivered promptly to the building administrator’s office. Confiscated devices shall be returned to the student at the end of the school day for a first offense, and only to a parent or guardian for a second or subsequent offense.
