Principal's Message

Greetings Shaull Families,

It has been a busy couple of weeks at Shaull. All students have completed their beginning of the year assessments and will be starting their SOAR groups on Monday. SOAR is designated time in every grade level at each CV elementary school where students get the academic instruction they need based on their beginning of the year assessments. Please note, in our half day Kindergarten, this is part of our Extended Day program. We are very fortunate to have reading interventionists and multiple points of data to help tailor students' instruction.

Coming up on September 27, we will have our first of two NED Show school assemblies of the school year. NED stands for Never Give Up, Encourage Others, and Do Your Best. Our September assembly is a synchronous live event whereas our Spring NED Show, titled Kindness Adventure, will be in person here at Shaull. Part of the fun of NED Show is weaving in the classic yoyo into the assembly. Here at school, we will be selling the NED Show yoyos. The sale of the yoyo completely offsets the fee for the two assemblies, and is a lot of fun for the students! Be prepared for your student to come home excited about NED Show, yoyos, and yoyo tricks! For more information about the NED Show, click HERE.

Shaull's after school clubs are also off to a great start! A special thank you goes out to our Garden Club Chair, Mrs. Skoczynski, who for several years now, has poured her heart and soul into a thriving garden and a wonderfully positive experience for students! Another thank you goes out to CVHS student, Adam Skoczynski, who is doing phenomenal work with our Engineering Club! Additionally, our first Science Explorers Club, Slime After Slime, will be starting at the end of this month! Lastly, stay tuned for updates related to a Spring Girls on the Run team! We are working to find parent volunteers who are interested in coaching and leading this amazing after school experience for students in the intermediate grades here at Shaull! If you may be interested in being a GOTR coach or co-coach, please feel free to reach out to the GOTR mid-state coordinator, Alyssa Akhtar, at alyssa.akhtar@gotrmidstatepa.org

Respectfully,

Mr. T.

Room Parent Sign Up Information

Are you looking for a chance to meet other parents and to help bring some fun into your kiddo's classroom? And one that doesn't take a whole lot of time? We've got a great opportunity for you--sign up to be a room parent!

The Room Parent information meeting will be held Tuesday, September 24th, from 6:00-6:30 p.m. in the Shaull cafeteria. Room parents plan the fall and winter classroom parties (which parent volunteers are able to attend). This meeting is an opportunity to meet other parent volunteers for your child's classroom, talk about who can act as the head room parent (this is just the person who communicates with the teacher and coordinates the volunteers), and get the party planning process started. If you cannot attend this meeting but would still like to volunteer, no problem!

Our students LOVE these parties, but we need parents to make them happen, so please consider volunteering. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at kml179@hotmail.com.

Thank you,

Kelly Barber

Room Parent Coordinator

If you would like to volunteer to be a room parent, please click on the link below and select a sign up sheet for your child's grade: https://www.timetosignup.com/shaullpto/folder/2424

PSSA Parent Reports Coming Soon

Next Wednesday, check your child's backpack if they were in 3rd or 4th grade last year. We will be sending home the PSSA Parent Reports from PA Department of Education. Students who were in 5th grade last year will have the reports sent home from the Middle School.

Portrait of an Eagle

Fly Like an Eagle!

Cumberland Valley School District's Portrait of an Eagle is our vision for all students upon graduation. Through the immersive Kindergarten through twelfth grade experience here at CVSD, our students will be able to demonstrate these seven competencies for success in adult life.

We will reward students each month with the CVSD Portrait of an Eagle Award Certificate. Be on the look out should your student come home with an award!

Additionally, students will be awarded the "High Fly"er" tickets on an ongoing basis to be entered in for regular prize drawings. Students may earn lunch with the principal, a game in the lobby "Sharkade," or prizes from the Principal Prize Bin.

Staff Shout Outs!

Please use the link below to nominate a Shaull staff member for doing something amazing or for going above and beyond! We will share responses in future editions of Shark Bites!

Eagle Spotlight - Shaull Staff Shout Out Form

Check out this wonderful commendation!

Mrs. Donmoyer - You made our son's day by selecting him as the secret student of the day. We are so proud to see him beginning the year on task, following classroom expectations, and be recognized for his efforts in class. We are happy to have you as his 1st grade teacher this year!

Our daughter comes home and shares with us about the food service woman who helps her every morning when she goes to breakfast. Our daughter says, “She always smiles and helps me get my breakfast. She is so nice and that is why I go to breakfast every morning”. Thank you for going above and beyond to make a Green Ridge kindergarten student feel special!
