Shark Bites - The Shaull Elementary School Newsletter |

Greetings Shaull Families,
As an extension of our school theme, “A Galaxy Together,” we are excited to launch Galaxy Games, an innovative way to build team unity and school spirit! This afternoon, our Sharks will attend an interactive assembly to discover which galaxy their classroom belongs to, learn how to earn points for their galaxy, and explore the rewards they can achieve throughout the school year. We can’t wait to experience this together! Be sure to ask your Shark if they are part of the Blinking Eye Galaxy, Butterfly Galaxy, Firework Galaxy, or Bear Paw Galaxy!
This week, we began our mid-year benchmark assessments for all students. These assessments help us identify student needs and determine which SOAR groups and interventions will best support each grade level. SOAR groups will resume later in January.
Next Thursday, we invite you to join us for the 4th and 5th Grade Winter Chorus Concert! The performance will take place on Thursday, January 15th at 7:00 PM at the Mountain View Middle School Performing Arts Center. Our students have been working hard with Mrs. Schade since the start of the school year and are excited to share their music with our school community!
Looking ahead, our Annual Science Fair is coming up on February 20th! The sign-up deadline is approaching, so if your Shaull Shark would like to participate, please check the flyer below or click the link for Science Fair registration.
Please note: Our PTO Meeting originally scheduled for this week has been moved to Wednesday, January 14th at 6:00 PM on Zoom. Below are the remaining PTO meeting dates for this school year (all at 6:00 PM on Zoom):
January 14 February 11 March 11 April 8 May 13
Thank you for your continued support and involvement. Have a wonderful weekend as we continue to celebrate “A Galaxy Together”! Respectfully,
Mr. T. |
Smart Watches and Cell Phones at School |
We understand that many students bring cell phones and smart watches to school, and we want to ensure they are used appropriately so that learning remains the focus during the day. Students may bring cell phones to school, but they should be off and kept safely in backpacks or cubbies throughout the instructional day. Please note that the school and district cannot be responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen devices.
Recently, we’ve noticed more students wearing smart watches, especially after winter break. While students are welcome to wear their watches, they should not be making or receiving calls or texts during school hours. We’ve had a few instances where students have been messaging parents during the day, which is not permitted. If this happens, students will receive a warning. Continued misuse may result in the watch being held by the principal until a parent can pick it up. If your child is not feeling well, please remind them to follow school procedures by visiting the nurse. Only the nurse or principal can authorize a student to go home. Texting parents from a watch or phone is not allowed for this purpose.
We kindly ask that you talk with your child about using their smart watch responsibly. Your support helps us keep students focused on learning and engaged in their classrooms, while teaching them to become productive and responsible digital citizens. Thank you for partnering with us! |
As a traditional rite of passage for our 5th grade students, they have voted on our yearbook cover for this school year. The cover is below! If you are interested in pre-ordering a yearbook, click the button below: |

Our PTO works diligently to plan and host wonderful experiences for our students and families.
In order for our PTO to be successful for current and future generations of Shaull students and teachers, we need participation by our parents. Please reach out to me or the PTO at shpto@cvschools.org, or rtysarczyk@cvschools.org for information on how to attend a Zoom PTO meeting or how to get involved in our events. Our PTO meetings are the second Wednesday of each month and generally are 30-45 minutes in length.

Fly Like an Eagle!
Cumberland Valley School District's Portrait of an Eagle is our vision for all students upon graduation. Through the immersive Kindergarten through twelfth grade experience here at CVSD, our students will be able to demonstrate these seven competencies for success in adult life. We will reward students each month with the CVSD Portrait of an Eagle Award Certificate. Be on the look out should your student come home with an award!
Additionally, students will be awarded the "High Fly"er" tickets on an ongoing basis to be entered in for regular prize drawings. Students may earn lunch with the principal, a game in the lobby "Sharkade," or prizes from the Principal Prize Bin. |

Please use the link below to nominate a Shaull staff member for doing something amazing or for going above and beyond! We will share responses in future editions of Shark Bites! Eagle Spotlight - Shaull Staff Shout Out Form Check out these wonderful commendations! Heather Shoemaker is always more than happy help with a smile on her face! To all the Shaull Teachers and Staff,
What an amazing school you support! Without you, I wouldn't hear about Egg Drops, Pumpkin Seed Experiments, Pinch Pots, PE Games, Math Corner & Calendar, CKLA connections at the dinner table, Exploration STEM lessons, little voices singing in our house, Cheese Club wins, book must-reads, and beautiful poetry in the Poet Tree student-written book...and so much more!
Thank you for making all the magic happen at school for our children. I know you are doing an outstanding job because we hear about it at home. At the dinner table, when our family comes together each night for a meal, we love to ask, ""What was a favorite part of your day today?"" We are always very excited to hear what's going on at Shaull Elementary.
Thank you so much to ALL of you. We notice and really appreciate what you do. |
