Principal's Message

Greetings Shaull Families,

With winter just about here, once again we are asking each family to send their student to school with a winter coat, a hat, gloves, and a scarf. We will continue to have outdoor recess throughout the winter months and we have students who are not fully prepared for the weather. If any family is in need of assistance obtaining winter clothing, please contact our school counselor, Mr. Barrick.

It's not too early to think about our Winter Chorus Concert led by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Schade, on Thursday, January 16th at 7:00 PM at Mountain View Middle School! Please save the date and come out to see our 4th and 5th grade students shine!

On Thursday, we gathered all students in grades 1-5 for our Portrait of an Eagle assembly where we focused on our latest competency of Adaptability. We discussed what it means to be adaptable at school as students and how kids and adults need to be adaptable in the world outside of school. Part of our discussion was about how we learn from our mistakes and even the greatest athletes, scientists, and inventors have failed before they succeeded. Many students had an opportunity to share with partners and share out to the student body their examples of how they have been adaptable in their lives. It was a great way to end our half day of school learning about our final new POE competency - Adaptability.

Over the next two weeks there will be much excitement across our elementary school for the December holidays. Below are two weeks of spirit days to help channel this excitement! We will have two full weeks of school from Monday, December 9th through Friday, December 20th. On December 20th, we will celebrate with a sing along assembly and our Winter Socials (class parties). Students and staff will be off for Winter Break from 12/21 through Wednesday, January 1st. We return to school following the Winter Break on Thursday, January 2nd.

Thank you for reading this edition of Shark Bites. Enjoy the long weekend!

Respectfully,

Mr. T.

Dismissal Procedures

Towards the end of the summer, we shared our Shaull PM dismissal procedures. These procedures are below, and generally go very smoothly in the afternoons. We would like to provide a few updates as it pertains to safety at the crosswalk and smoother traffic flow into the parent pickup loop.

Whether arriving from the East or West on Wertzville or from the South on Lambs Gap, please enter the Shaull Loop through Reed Lane on Lambs Gap Road. This helps to alleviate congestion at the entry point of the Parent Pick Up Loop. Additionally, please be mindful of any crosswalks so that our walking Sharks can traverse the area safely! When leaving the Parent Pick Up Loop, feel free to turn right out to Wertzville or go through the neighborhood on Reed Lane.

Please note, cars may not make left turns on to Wertzville from Shaull Drive.

Cars are also not able to make left turns coming from the West onto Shaull Drive. This intersection is designed to not allow traffic to cross Wertzville for safety reasons. Please go to the next intersection at Lambs Gap Road and make the left.

Soda Can Pop Top Collection

We are collecting pop tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This organization helps families of children who are receiving essential, lifesaving medical care. Many of you know of at least one person who has benefited from this charity in our community. In order to support this charity, we need your help. Please consider collecting the tab off of cans you use. These tabs could be from soup cans, soda, energy drinks, pet food, etc. Size of the tab does not matter. Our goal this year is to collect at least 90lbs of tabs! Tabs can be dropped off at the CVHS 10-12 building (room 282), Mountain View Middle School (Main Office), Shaull Elementary (Main Office), or any other school that has a collection going.  If any questions arise, please contact Millie Eckerd (eeckerd@cvschools.org).
