Principal's Message

Greetings Shaull Families,

What an exciting month it has been here at Shaull! Our students and staff enjoyed the Winter Theme days over the past two weeks! Please check out and follow our Shaull Facebook Page to see some of our photos from the last few weeks! The link can be found at the bottom of this newsletter in the "Useful Documents and Links" section.

Today, we wound down 2024 with our Winter Parties and our Sing Along assembly! Thank you to all of our room parents and volunteers who took time out of their schedules to make today great fun! Thank you to Mrs. Schade, our amazing Music teacher, for working with all of our students for the Sing Along Assembly! We look forward to a successful 2025 after the Winter Break. School resumes on Thursday, January 2.

Recently, we have had an increase in students texting parents to pick them up from school on their smartwatches. I would like to take a moment to note that students are not permitted to utilize smartwatches to text parents throughout the school day. Not only is this becoming a disruption to the academic process here at school, students are bypassing the procedures we have in place when they are sick. When a student is ill at school, they must go to Nurse Bowen's office to be checked. From there, our school nurse will reach out to parents if a student needs to go home (fever, vomiting, injury, etc). We take school attendance and our procedures seriously. Please review this with your child. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

With Winter beginning tomorrow, don't forget to send your student to school with a winter coat, hat, gloves, and a scarf for recess during the winter season! We will see you all in 2025!

Respectfully,

Mr. T.

Device Policy Reminder (including smartwatches)

CELL PHONES AND PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES (School Board Policy 237)

The Board recognizes that mobile phones and electronic devices are now an integral part of the daily lives and culture of many of the District’s students. Nonetheless, the Board believes that students should have an educational environment free from unnecessary disruptions and distractions. The Board has determined that the presence of mobile phones and electronic devices has the potential to distract students from their educational mission and to otherwise disrupt the educational environment.

Electronic devices shall include all devices that can take photographs; record, play or edit audio or video data; store, transmit or receive calls, messages, text, data or images; operate online applications; or provide a wireless, unfiltered connection to the Internet.

In our elementary schools, students are prohibited from using any electronic device during the school day.  Any electronic device, including cell phones and smartwatches, possessed by any student in school buildings or on district property must remain powered off and always kept out of sight during the school day except as follows below.

Nothing in this policy shall affect the ability of the building administrator or another staff member to grant approval for the use of an electronic device by a student. Students must obtain prior permission from the building administrator or staff member to utilize the electronic device during the school day. Usage may include, but is not limited to, instructional purposes, student’s urgent health or safety needs, or in the event of an emergency. Nothing in this policy shall affect the provision or use of an electronic device as stated in an Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Service Agreement.

If a student does not follow this expectation, building administrators and staff members may confiscate a student’s electronic devices. All confiscated electronic devices shall be delivered promptly to the building administrator’s office. Confiscated devices shall be returned to the student at the end of the school day for a first offense, and only to a parent or guardian for a second or subsequent offense.

Soda Can Pop Top Collection

We are collecting pop tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This organization helps families of children who are receiving essential, lifesaving medical care. Many of you know of at least one person who has benefited from this charity in our community. In order to support this charity, we need your help. Please consider collecting the tab off of cans you use. These tabs could be from soup cans, soda, energy drinks, pet food, etc. Size of the tab does not matter. Our goal this year is to collect at least 90lbs of tabs! Tabs can be dropped off at the CVHS 10-12 building (room 282), Mountain View Middle School (Main Office), Shaull Elementary (Main Office), or any other school that has a collection going.  If any questions arise, please contact Millie Eckerd (eeckerd@cvschools.org).
