Greetings Shaull Families,

Our Science Explorers "Pop, Fizz, Bang" Club wrapped up this week with some awesome explosions and home made ice cream! The next Science Explorers club, "Secrets of Ancient Egypt" begins later this month. Our new Snapology club is off and running starting this week! Students in the "Amusement Park Engineering" club created rollercoasters and powered swing rides! Next week, "Creature Creator Robotics" and "Robotics STEAM Club" begins. A rescheduled date was sent from Snapology regarding the club affected by our recent snow day.
Over the next couple weeks, students in all grades will be taking their middle of the year benchmark assessments. We utilize the data from these assessment to gauge student progress and intervene as necessary, including creating new SOAR groups based on what students need. Our interventionist team including Mrs. Maas and Mrs. Pickel alongside our instructional coach, Dr. Feichtel, are hard at work meeting up with each student!
We have a lot of exciting events currently in the works! Stay tuned for a new club currently in the planning stages, the Science Fair, and our Spring Dance, the "Shamrock Shake" in March! If your Shark is interested in creating a project for the Science Fair on February 21st, see the Science Fair section below which includes the information packet link and sign up link. Please review the packet before signing up as it gives a through explanation of project requirements.
As a reminder from our last edition of Shark Bites, we have had an increase in students texting parents to pick them up from school on their smartwatches. I would like to take a moment to note that students are not permitted to utilize smartwatches to text parents throughout the school day. Not only is this becoming a disruption to the academic process here at school, students are bypassing the procedures we have in place when they are sick. When a student is ill at school, they must go to Nurse Bowen's office to be checked. From there, our school nurse will reach out to parents if a student needs to go home (fever, vomiting, injury, etc). We take school attendance and our procedures seriously. Please review this with your child. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Please don't forget to send your student to school with a winter coat, hat, gloves, and a scarf for recess during the winter season!
Respectfully,
Mr. T.
