Portrait of an Eagle - Critical Thinking Awards |
This month, we celebrate students who were nominated for their exemplary critical thinking skills! Way to go, Sharks! |
Abigail is an excellent critical thinker. She draws on broad, deep background knowledge to connect new concepts to what she already knows. She is eager to tackle academic challenges and often answers higher-level questions with ease. This year she has grown in her ability to support peers who find the content more difficult, becoming a strong peer teacher. She is also well informed and cares deeply about world issues such as climate change. I have no doubt her critical thinking will one day have a positive impact on the world. Keep up the great work, Abigail!
Tim is a great critical thinker who does a wonderful job sharing his ideas and making connections in class. He thinks carefully about his work and adds thoughtful ideas to our discussions! |
Lily shows lots of critical thinking skills during the school day. She does a great job at explaining her answers, asking thoughtful questions and uses evidence to support her answers. She is always working hard on her work! |
Tanish demonstrates critical thinking skills in the classroom daily. He is able to clearly explain his answers, support his answers with evidence, and make connections to the topics we discuss in class. He is a hard worker and a pleasure to teach. Keep up the great work Tanish!
Aaliya is an awesome critical thinker! She excels at organizing information and opinions on a daily basis. She never waivers in her approach to determining the relevance of her solutions and intuitively provides rationales during classroom responses. Way to go, Aaliya!
Amy is awesome! She uses her critical thinking skills during math. She is always thinking of new ways to be a nice friend to everyone. I am so grateful to have her in class. |
Emma is a naturally inquisitive learner who frequently asks questions to deepen her understanding. She makes good connections between different topics and approaches challenges with a positive attitude. I love her enthusiasm for learning! |
Leo uses his critical thinking skills throughout each day! He works hard to find solutions to problems in and out of the classroom. He is determined, hard-working, and thinks outside of the box! Keep up the good work, Leo! |
Emmett is an excellent critical thinker. I love listening to all of the unique ways he chooses to solve a problem, as he is always thinking outside of the box! His enthusiasm for learning and hard-work sets an excellent example for his classmates. Way to go, Emmett! |
Naira is a great example of a critical thinker. She asks questions to think about different views on many topics. She loves to make connections in learning. Naira uses her prediction skills in math and explains her reasoning. Great job Naira! |
Calleigh is a prime example of a critical thinker! She asks thoughtful questions wise beyond her years and loves explaining her thought process in different areas. She does an amazing job thinking critically about our world and sharing her thoughts with me. Calleigh, you are amazing!
Liam is an excellent critical thinker. He thinks deeply about many topics and asks great questions. His curiosity amazes me! Way to go, Liam! |
Jake consistently thinks outside the box! He loves asking questions and finding solutions to problems. He enjoys learning and often looks beyond the surface to understand concepts more deeply. During class discussions, he contributes meaningful insights and is able to make connections between different topics. His curiosity makes him a valuable member of the classroom! |
Leo is a critical thinker. He asks questions that help him make sense of new information and uses what he learns to solve problems. He is able to show evidence to prove his answers are correct. He enjoys solving puzzles, riddles, and math problems. He is an independent and curious learner! |
Everley is a creative thinker! She looks at all aspects of a problem, math or social, and can explain it from different angles. She takes her time, works through it, and is able to explain ideas to solve or understand. She applies her creativity to class discussions. I love hearing her ideas! |
Andrew is an exceptional thinker whose curiosity & thoughtful approach to learning set him apart. He consistently asks insightful “why” and “how” questions to understand how ideas connect and what evidence supports them. When he encounters complex problems, he breaks them into clear, manageable steps, showing both patience and creativity in finding solutions. Most importantly, he communicates his reasoning with clarity and confidence. |
Oliver is a great critical thinker. He’s always curious about the 'why' behind an answer, not just the answer itself. He’s also good at walking you through his logic step-by-step. What’s even better is how he handles mistakes—he reflects on them, learns what he needs to, and then just moves on without getting stuck. |
Melody is a great critical thinker and she shows it through her analytical thinking and questioning. Throughout the year, Melody often asks questions to deepen her understanding of topics, especially in CKLA! Additionally she often relates things we learn to her life or asks why or how questions. She does a fantastic job thinking about how to solve problems before trying. Keep up the great work Melody! |
Darian shows his critical thinking every day in school by questioning the world around him. He is inquisitive, curious about all the different things we learn and always asks deeper questions that show his thinking. He uses what we learn to understand his own life experiences, too. I am proud of you Darian! |

Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) |
Our students in grades 3-5 have been taking small bites of the online practice Pennsylvania System of School Assessments (PSSA) through the Pennsylvania Department of Education in order to prepare for the first PSSAs that are fully administered online rather than paper and pencil. We are working to prepare students for the look and feel of taking the assessments on their school devices as it is a much different experience than the test in the paper booklets. Our official PSSA test dates are:
English/Language Arts: 4/21, 4/22, 4/23
Math: 4/27, 4/28
Science (gr 5 only): 4/29, 4/30
Please note that Educational Trip Requests for students in tested grades will not be approved on these state testing days. Each student's participation in the assessments counts towards our "participation rate" which is compared to schools locally, regionally, and statewide.

A Note about our Parent Drop-Off and Pick-Up Loop |
Dear Families,
First and foremost, thank you to the overwhelming majority of our families who navigate our drop-off and pick-up loop every day with patience and grace. We truly appreciate you and do not take that for granted.
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we want to take a moment to address something that has been happening with increasing frequency in our afternoon pick-up loop. Our staff members who are working the loop every day are there with one purpose in mind: making sure every child gets safely into the right car. Recently, we have experienced a number of situations where staff have been met with frustration and in some cases arguing from parents and guardians, and we want to respectfully ask for your patience and understanding.
Our afternoon pick-up process uses a Google-based student number system that requires us to check in each car, locate your child's number, and confirm that the right student is coming out to the right vehicle. This takes a moment, and on busy afternoons that can mean the line moves more slowly than any of us would like. We completely understand that everyone is busy and that the end of the school day can feel rushed. However, our staff are doing exactly what we ask them to do, which is keeping your children safe during a portion of the day that has a lot of moving parts.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us keep dismissal safe and a positive experience for everyone.
Respectfully,
Mr. T.
